ETJ Relinquishments
The City of Belmont currently has its zoning applied to parcels beyond its municipal limits within an area known as its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
In 2017, Belmont, Cramerton, Mount Holly, Gastonia, and McAdenville entered into an annexation agreement, which outlines mutually agreed-upon limitations for future city limits for each municipality. (see snippet of map below)
We recently received two separate requests to consider relinquishment of Belmont zoning for property owners eligible for annexation into Cramerton's city limits. Before Cramerton can process the annexation requests, Belmont first must unassign zoning to the affected parcels.
