Our citizens and the people visiting Belmont, NC are very important to us. We believe that you are the eyes and ears of our City and value your feedback and input. When the citizens of a community work in conjunction with their police department, we believe this leads to a more positive environment for everyone. Whether you want to inform us of a positive interaction you have had or need to file a complaint against one of our Officers, we want your input.

The Compliment Process

When you receive service that you feel is worthy of a commendation and you want to compliment an Officer, please let us know. You may fill out our Officer Commendation Form to provide us with information about your positive experience. Commendations are forwarded to officers and their supervisors to ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve. The Belmont Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards is responsible for commendations for exemplary service. The Office of Professional Standards reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Complaint Process

The Belmont Police Department values our community members and their feedback. If you feel that one of our Officers has mistreated you or violated one or more of our policies, you may submit an official complaint online by clicking the link below. You may also submit a form in person, by mail, fax, email, or you may call to schedule an appointment with us. Our department policy requires us to investigate all allegations of employee misconduct. When we receive a complaint, the Office of Professional Standards sends a letter to confirm the complaint has been received and assigned for investigation. The Office of Professional Standards reports directly to the Chief of Police. We make every effort to complete the investigation within 90 days; however, circumstances may arise that require a longer period of time. You will receive a follow-up letter of communication at the end of the investigation. In accordance with state law, the Belmont Police Department is unable to release what specific discipline was imposed on the employee should the investigation result in confirmation of wrongdoing.
