Citizens Police Academy
History
The Belmont Citizens Police Academy (BCPA) was started in 2002 with the mission of educating the public about police operations. This is done in both a classroom and interactive setting. This academy will give the citizens in the Belmont area the opportunity to meet and learn from the officers who protect their community and property. Upon completion of this class we hope that our citizens will be better informed and educated about their Police Department.
Police Academy Alumni
The non-profit organization, Belmont Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (BCPAAA), consists of citizens who have completed the Belmont Citizens Police Academy program. The primary goal is to conduct fund-raising events and activities in support of the Belmont Police Department to improve and equip the Officers to better serve the Belmont community.
Community Outreach
The BCPAAA additionally supports the Public Safety Cadets Unit# 1895 associated with the Belmont Police Department in the education and development of young men and women interested in possible careers in areas of Police work through fund-raising and providing financial support from that fund-raising.
Support
Fund-raising/support is provided by hosting/sponsoring the Annual Belmont Classic 5K Race during the summer each year. This usually takes place in May on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day. Proceeds are received by personal solicitation of local business, organizations, individuals and advertising. Registration fees are collected from event participants as well to help offset the cost of the expenses incurred for the production of the event. Other funding is received from unsolicited donations by local businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the year.
