Help Celebrate Arbor Day in Belmont on March 20, 2010

Belmont was recognized as a Tree City USA at its 2009 Arbor Day celebration.The City of Belmont will hold its annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Stowe Park in downtown Belmont. The celebration will last from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm and will feature several exhibitors in tree-related industries as well as tree-related educational and entertainment activities.

The Catawba River Bluegrass Association will have a bluegrass jam session at Arbor Day. Come here live local bluegrass musicians while learning about trees.

Keep Belmont Beautiful has donated a tree to be planted in Stowe Park. We will demonstrate the proper way to plant at tree during the Arbor Day event. This event is free and open to the public. Please join us for this fun, family-friendly event.

The City received its second annual Tree City USA award and its first Tree City USA Growth Award at the event.

Local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will place tree identification signs on the trees in Stowe Park as a service project. The signs were purchased through a grant from the NC Division of Forestry.

Groups participating in Arbor Day include Duke Energy, Walgreens, Keep Belmont Beautiful, Belmont Historical Society, Stowe Nursery, Southern Roots, Census 2010, Belmont Stormwater, Belmont Tree Board, NC Cooperative Extension, Catawba River District, and Schneider Tree Care.
